One Piece Chapter 1169 Review : King Harald VS Elder Jarul
In the latest chapter 1169 of the One Piece manga starts the long-awaited fight between King Harald and his brave soldiers and Prince Loki, and we are getting closer to the reveal of the legendary Devil Fruit of Elbaph. We also see Shanks and Gaban’s interesting conversation. This chapter was the start of the actual flashback of Loki, which was revealed months ago in chpater 1152
Chapter Summary
The chapter starts with Shanks, who went missing from his last mission, and is now at Elbaph with Gaban, the left-hand man of the Pirate King, Gol D. Roger. An interesting conversation starts between them, and Gaban says Monkey D. Garp told him that the Pirate King has a son, to which Shanks happily replies that this means the child is like his younger brother.
Then the scene shifts to the chaotic situation of King Harald, where he injured a soldier who was chaining him, and everyone was shocked by why he cut the soldier who was just following orders. King Harald questions himself about why he cut this soldier and deduces it was because of Imu’s order and the Abyss Mark contract. He will snuff out anyone who gets in his way, and he cannot disobey Imu’s order. Slowly, his thoughts are getting corrupted, and he questions himself—will this last forever?
King Harald is still regretting all his previous decisions and decides that he will be a walking hazard for the country and that all his efforts will be in vain, so he gives his final order to his soldiers to kill him now, before he is completely taken over. We see the chapter 1152 panel where Prince Loki and Jarul enter the chamber to see King Harald stabbed by his soldiers.
So King Harald dies? NO, because due to the Abyss Mark, he is now immortal and regenerating his wounds while losing control.
Again, the scene changes and we see Shanks stating his reason to visit Elbaph is to warn King Harald not to become a Depths Covenant. We also get to know some information about the Abyss Mark: if you become a Depths Covenant, you cannot defy orders because you can hear the Great Ones (Imu), even if you are far away. During this conversation, Shanks and Gaban feel a surge of Haki coming from the king’s chambers.
We see Loki and Jarul taking battle stances in confusion and telling Harald to come back to his senses. King Harald explains one last time to them and, as the king, tells Loki to take care of Elbaph and to tell him everything that happened to him—how he got betrayed by the World Government—and tells Loki to eat the Elbaph legendary fruit.
After that, Loki hurries to the Devil Fruit room, and King Harald gets completely taken over by Imu and starts fighting. We see a fight between his soldiers and Elder Jarul, in which he gets stabbed in the head by his own sword thrown by King Harald, but he is saved by his helmet.
At that moment, Gaban and Shanks have entered the room to aid the soldiers. Shanks tries to talk with Harald, but he is corrupted by the power and says immortality is not that bad, as he feels superior to others.
The scene shifts to Loki entering the Devil Fruit room and seeing the forbidden Devil Fruit chest passed down in Elbaph. Beside the chest, their hammer, Ragnir, guarding it, attacks Loki, and he gets surprised and flustered and says, “What is that thing?”
Analysis & important confirmation
The Abyss Marks of the Depths Sea Covenant or the God Knights grant inhuman strength and immortality powers, and allow travel across vast distances by means of an Abyss pentagram. In exchange, the Great One’s voice can reach them anywhere, and they cannot defy orders by any means.
The Shallow Sea Covenant has a range, but within that range, you cannot defy orders. That’s why Shanks comes to Elbaph to meet King Harald and tell him about the sea contracts, and not to become a God Knight.
We also see Ragnir’s hammer attacking Loki and protecting the forbidden Devil Fruit, which raises many questions, like whether the hammer has its own will, or if the hammer ate a Devil Fruit, or if the Ragnir Hammer itself is the Elbaph legendary Devil Fruit.
Artwork & Style ( favourite panel )
I really like the panel of King Harald vs his soldiers in his one slash, he knocks out so many soldiers, which shows how dangerous a foe King Harald is, and you have to remember these soldiers are Elbaph soldiers, which is the land of warriorsFan Theories & Predictions
The next chapter will mainly focus on the tragic battle between King Harald VS shanks and gaban , and we might to know the truth about the elbaph legendary devil fruit passed down from generation and info about ragnir hammer and how loki tamed it
Comment your predictions, what will happen next and do you think Ragnir Hammer itself is the legendary weapon passed down in Elbaph? Ike Hammer itself is the devil fruit because we see weapons can also have devil fruit powers
Conclusion
Chapter 1169 leans heavily into tragedy and chaos, making Elbaph
feel less like a simple adventure stop and more like the beginning of a major events . Harald’s desperate decisions, Shanks and Gaban stepping in, and the reveal of the forbidden fruit all push the story toward a darker backstory of King Harald and loki pov, showing that the endgame of this flashback has truly begun.
