Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 16 Review : Maru Cursed Technique Revealed
In the previous chapter of Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, we saw that Yuka summoned the great treasure of the Zenin Clan: the divine Shinigami Mahoraga. Mahoraga then began adapting to the technique of Dabura, an alien entity from a planet known as Simuria. In today’s article, we follow chapter 16 of Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo and explore how the battle between Mahoraga and Dabura unfolds.
Chapter Summary
In this chapter, the Ten Shadows Technique is explained in detail, revealing how it truly works. It is stated that the technique has now been forbidden within the Gojo Clan. However, Yuka is the only exception, as she is permitted to use a single aspect of the technique: the summoning of the divine Shinigami Mahoraga. Mahoraga’s technique allows him to adapt to any and all phenomena, something we have already seen demonstrated in previous chapters of Jujutsu Kaisen. Throughout the entire history of the Jujutsu Kaisen world, no sorcerer has ever been able to tame Mahoraga, with the sole exception being Sukuna, as will be shown in a future chapter.
The only way to summon Mahoraga in battle is by performing a ritual in which the summoner drags the opponent into the ritual itself. Once summoned, Mahoraga attempts to kill both the summoner and the opponent. If the sorcerers are able to defeat Mahoraga during this ritual, only then can they successfully tame him.
In this chapter, Dabura and Mahoraga begin their battle, with Dabura initially overwhelming Mahoraga through his techniques and raw power. However, after a short period of combat, Mahoraga starts recovering from Dabura’s attacks at a much faster rate, gradually adapting to each of them. This sudden change leaves Dabura confused. He soon realizes that Mahoraga is not merely a puppet created to fight battles between sorcerers, but a being with an ability of his own. Dabura notices that whenever the wheel on Mahoraga’s head rotates, Mahoraga recovers more quickly and adapts further to his attacks. The chapter then once again explains Mahoraga’s technique: the ability to adapt to any and all phenomena.
The chapter then shifts its focus to Maru vs. Tsurugi. Tsurugi is an expert hand-to-hand combatant, and due to a Heavenly Restriction, he is unable to generate cursed energy. This makes him a fighter similar to Maki and Zenin Toji, both of whom were exceptional warriors. Maru and Tsurugi engage in a sword fight, with Tsurugi quickly dominating the battle. Because Tsurugi possesses no cursed energy, Maru is unable to read his movements through the flow of cursed energy. Maru soon realizes that Tsurugi is an extraordinary fighter and that he cannot defeat him half-heartedly.
Tsurugi then explains the reason behind his actions: he wants Dabura to leave Earth so that the death curse binding his sister and Dabura will be broken. However, Maru insists that Dabura cannot leave the planet, as returning to his home world would cause him to be caught in Dabura’s sister’s curse, which would ultimately lead to his death. With no other solution remaining and neither side able to fulfill the other’s conditions, Tsurugi proposes a duel in which the loser must obey the winner. He sets the condition that if he wins, the Simurians must leave Earth forever. Realizing there is no alternative, Maru draws his sword. Seizing the opportunity, Tsurugi initiates the battle by using a Simple Domain to attack Maru, but Maru responds by activating his cursed technique, Chaos and Harmony. By Activating this technique, Maru shifted the position of the world around Tsurugi and he lost his stance and started falling. The chapter ends with Tsurugi falling and Maru's and Cross's technique revelation.
Fan Theories & Predictions
A possible theory following this chapter is that in the aftermath of the battle between Dabura and Mahoraga, Mahoraga may ultimately lose the fight. In the final moments of the battle, it is likely that Yuji Itadori will intervene, potentially changing the outcome of the confrontation
