Jujutsu kaisen is one of the most successful anime and manga of this generation, and the studio has now begun the streaming of Season 3, which will adapt the Culling Game Arc from the manga. Culling game is a battle royale between its participants, where a player needs to kill other players to get points and has to follow strict rules in order to survive in the game. So let's learn about this game in more detail and see what are the major upcoming battles are in this anime while adapting this arc.

1. What Is Culling Game In Jujutsu Kaisen ?

Culling game is a battle royale with a number of 1000 participants left to fight each other. A player can attain points by killing other players. Players have to follow strict rules in the game and these rules cannot be changed. All the players in the game are designated a specific amount of point which represents the value of their lives. A player can use 100 points of his own to add a new rule in the culling game. 

This game has no master and is managed by binding vows so even if Kenjaku is killed this game will not end. The only way the culling game will end is the death of all players. There are 10 colonies across Japan where battles take place, and they are sealed off with barriers that separate them from one another. The only area not affected by the barriers is Hokkaido, as it is a holy land. A non-player can enter this game by simply entering one of the barriers. Others who have awakened their cursed technique must declare their entrance within 19 days; otherwise, their cursed technique will be removed, potentially resulting in their demise. 

There are initially eight rules that are disclosed to all the participants and anyone eligible to join this game. 

2. What are the Rules of the Culling Game? 

 1. After awakening a cursed technique, an individual must declare their participation in the Culling Game by entering a barrier of their choosing within 19 days. 

 2. Any player who fails to follow the previous rule will be subjected to cursed technique removal, which will likely kill the person. 

 3. Any non-player who enters a barrier is immediately registered as a player and is considered to have declared participation upon entry. 

 4. Players accumulate points by killing other players. 

 5. Point values are assigned by the game and represent the worth of a player’s life, with sorcerers generally valued at five points and non-sorcerers at one point. 

 6. Excluding the value of their own life, players may spend one hundred points to negotiate the addition of a single new rule to the Culling Game. 

 7. The game must accept any proposed rule under the previous condition unless it would cause a significant and long-term impact on the Culling Game. 

 8. If a player’s point total does not change for 19 consecutive days, they will be subjected to cursed technique removal.

9. Players gain access to information on other players, such as their name, amount of points, number of rules added, and their current colony.This rule was added by Hajime Kashimo. 

10. Players can leave the game by expending 100 points to invite a substitute into their colony. This rule was added by Megumi Fushiguro. 

11. Players can enter and exit across all colony borders. This rule was added by Yorozu. 

12. As of 9:09 PM on November 18, 2018, no new players can join the Culling Game.This rule was added by Kenjaku. 

13. The Culling Game will end upon the deaths of all players except Suguru Geto, Megumi Fushiguro, and Shiori Himi.This rule was added by Kenjaku.

14. Authority to activate the Great Merger is passed to Megumi Fushiguro.This rule was added by Kenjaku's failsafe 

3. Who are the Players in the Culling Game? 

 There are 2 types of players in this game one being Jujutsu sorcerers and the other being humans who are just awakened by Kenjaku using Mahito’s technique and his old binding vows, which he made with sorcerers from the past. Kenjaku made binding vows in the past with sorcerers and made cursed objects that will be used to awaken them into a Vessel, a case similar to Sukuna and Yuji. 

Kenjaku ingested this cursed objects into human he selected as vessels and marked them with his cursed energy. After that, Kenjaku started marking humans who had the potential to wield cursed energy but due to their brains being wired differently, they were not able to. This case is similar to Junpei, as we saw how Mahito used his cursed technique to alter Junpei’s brain to awaken him. After the final battle of Mahito against Yuji, Mahito lost, and while Yuji was about to finish Mahito but Kenjaku intervened and absorbed Mahito by using the technique of Cursed Spirit Manipulation which is Suguru Geto’s technique.

 He then used Mahito’s cursed technique and awakened the marked players by altering their brains and making them able to wield cursed energy and due to this reason they awakened. Culling Game include modern sorcerers like Yuji Itadori, Megumi Fushiguro, Yuta Okkotsu, Maki Zenin, Kinji Hakari, and Fumihiko Takaba, alongside ancient reincarnated sorcerers such as Ryu Ishigori, Takako Uro, Hajime Kashimo, Hana Kurusu, Chizuru Hari, Dhruv Lakdawalla, Reggie Star, Uraume, and Charles Bernard.

4. What is the Motive and Goal of the Culling Game? 

 In the context of a battle royale, the real goal of the Culling game is to generate cursed energy, which will be done when players fight. This cursed energy will be used to activate and complete the ritual of merging the population of Japan with the soul of Tengen. Tengen is a sorcerer who has the Cursed technique of Immortality and by living for more than a 1000 year, she has evolved into something other than human. Kenjaku believes that a merger between Japan’s population and Tengen can help humans attain a new evolution and transform into a life form greater than humans and Cursed spirits.

6. What happened to the Culling Game at the end of the Series? 

 (Major Spoilers Ahead) 

The Culling Game lost its primary motive of merging humans with tengen after Kenjaku and Sukuna were killed. Since the condition of all the players being dead for ending the game was not fulfilled the Game is still active, but has lost its edge and forced state. The areas affected by the culling game barriers are still active but as an isolated zones with players living there and cursed spirits spawning there. After the end of the final battle with Sukuna Maki and other sorcerers killed all the violent players and cursed spirits in all the barriers and thus the barriers in the current timeline of Modulo is still active.
