One Piece Chapter 1171 Review : Lore Drop Elbaph Is "D"
In the latest chapter 1171 of the One Piece manga, we finally see the aftermath of the fight between King Harald and Loki, and why he was tied up underground in Elbaph. The main thing about this chapter is that we are back to the present and finishing the series of flashbacks, and Luffy and the gang are preparing to face their current enemies. We also see the first named attack from Loki. So, let’s start the review of chapter 1171.
Chapter Summary
The chapter starts with Gaban being shocked by Harald’s strength and how his fatal wounds easily regenerated, yet they somehow still managed to defeat him. He asks Jarul if the Elbaph devil fruit or treasure is really that powerful, to which Jarul replies that he does not know and says that if Loki was not there, they were doomed.
Shanks remembers the promises his father or the World Government made to King Harald, and how they brutally betrayed him and crushed his dreams. Shanks starts crying in frustration and desperation, wondering why he was too late to meet him and blaming his clan and heritage for it. Gaban holds Shanks and tells him that he still has a role to play, and that everyone’s life has meaning. On the other side, Loki is crying over the end his father met for loving this country and asks, “Is this a cruel joke?”
The scene shifts to Imu, and we finally see the feared side of Imu. Imu is shocked that the ancient warrior giant, with his immense strength and immortal body, was killed—and questions by whom, and what exactly exists in Elbaph. The Five Elders suggest that they should investigate it with the help of the Harald Abyss, which is still intact, but Imu refuses, saying it would only lead to the death of another knight and place a Covenant cost upon Imu himself.
Imu states that Harald made a heretical move by trying to connect his land with other people. He says that his tribe are warriors, whose every drop of blood calls for battle, and that carelessly adding them to the World Government would lead to internal collapse. Imu then declares, “Don’t forget—Elbaph is a D.
Loki says not to tell anyone what happened there and that he will take the blame. It’s how things have always been for him, so it’s nothing unusual. He says he will set sail with the remaining guards, and with this power, he will avenge his father’s death and his soldiers. Jarul warns him that it is a vast organization and that he cannot take it on by himself. Panic spreads throughout the kingdom as news breaks that the castle has been destroyed, and Loki immediately sets sail from the island. With this, the long-running flashback comes to an end.
In the present, Loki tells Hajrudin that by the time he arrived, in the eyes of the people he had already become Loki the father-slayer, and he clearly did not argue against it. He says, “I am not far gone enough to celebrate my father’s death. What should I do? Should I tell the country about the entire incident?
Gaban backs it up by saying it was all true. After that, Hajrudin says that this is why Elder Jarul always spoke in favor of Loki regarding his punishment. He then uncuffs Loki and tells him to fight with them for Elbaph’s sake. Luffy cheers happily, saying that now he can finally fight Loki.
Suddenly, a draugr drops from above, and everyone is shocked—these monsters are real. Loki says, “Perfect for my warm-up,” and adds that he can fly, telling the others to go ahead. Sanji, Gaban, and Chopper also leave, as Gaban is worried about his son.
Luffy stays behind to see Loki’s powers. Loki summons his weapon, Ragnir, into his hand, then jumps and unleashes his first named attack, Nibelheim, on the draugr. The monster freezes, cracks, and the chapter ends.
Analysis & important confirmation
This chapter reveals that Imu was shocked and curious about how King Harald, under his Covenant, was defeated in Elbaph, and was afraid to send another Holy Knight. This implies that King Harald was the strongest, strength-wise, among all the Holy Knights. Imu also states that making a Covenant costs him his power, and that they will never incorporate Elbaph anymore, because—never forget—Elbaph is a D.
Second, at the end of the chapter, Loki is freed and ready to fight, and he unleashes his first named attack, Nibelheim, which freezes the draugr.
Fan Theories & Predictions
My theory is that Sanji will use Conqueror’s Haki in the future. As you might have noticed, Gaban and Sanji are together, and Gaban gives off similar vibes to Sanji, as even Luffy has stated. Gaban looks like an older version of Sanji, and he was also the left hand of the King of the Pirates, just as Sanji is the left hand of Luffy.
My main point is that Gaban can teach Sanji how to discover his Conqueror’s Haki, which he may have suppressed since childhood. Don’t forget, Conqueror’s Haki is achieved by those who have kingly qualities, and Sanji was a prince—or still is—but he does not accept it.
Conclusion
Chapter 1171 of One Piece finally marks the end of the long-running flashback that started in chapter 1152. With the story now moving forward, we are about to witness the Holy Knights versus the Straw Hats and Loki. The patience peak is coming.
