Loki’s Origin and Tragic Backstory

Loki was born into Elbaph’s royal bloodline and raised in the warrior culture of the giants. From birth, he was destined to rule. But due to his mother’s pure bloodline, he had ancient giant features and strength which appeared from birth, like horns on his head, demonic eyes, and extraordinary strength.

However, after seeing these features on her baby, Queen Estrid declared him a demon and threw him into the underworld, but Loki climbed up from the depths of hell to his mother.

This incident started the rumors of the Accursed Prince, and later these rumours became more believable to the rest of the giants because far more tragic events happened. Everything changed fourteen years ago.

King Harald fell victim to the betrayal of the World Government. King Harald became a Holy Knight of the Celestial Dragons and gained immense power and immortality, along with a duty to serve the World Government in exchange for elbaph being established as an official country and made available to others, and vice versa for the giants. But the deal had two faces, and he became fully controlled by Imu-sama because of an Abyss contract. The World Government wanted Elbaph to take part in war, which Harald was against due to his ideology.

Seeing no option to free himself from Imu’s Abyss contract, Harald ordered Loki to eat the legendary Devil Fruit of elbaph and told him to grant his last wish, which was to kill him because only Loki could do it with the power of the Devil Fruit.

To save his homeland, Loki consumed elbaph’s legendary Devil Fruit and killed his own father, and Loki hid this truth to protect his father’s name and respect, and how he was betrayed, because if it got out, the giants would surely declare war, which was against Harald’s ideology because he wanted peace in elbaph for the next generation and for them to learn new ways to progress their country through education and skills, unlike blood and bruises.

Because of that, the giants misunderstood his actions. Seeing only the king’s death, Loki, the Accursed Prince, turned into the Shame of elbaph.

He was chained with seastone restraints and imprisoned in the Underworld beneath Elbaph’s sacred Treasure Tree Adam.

Why Is Loki Called the “Accursed Prince or Shame of elbaph?

The title “Accursed Prince” comes from the belief that Loki murdered King Harald for power, but now you know the truth: it was never a murder. It was his father’s last wish to save Elbaph from himself and the World Government.

Because of this misunderstanding, for other giants, Loki became feared rather than respected. Some giants even believe that his release could bring about the end of the world because now he has eaten elbaph’s legendary Devil Fruit, passed down through generations or protected for generations by Ragnir Hammer.

Loki’s Weapon: Ragnir

Loki wields a legendary warhammer named Ragnir, inspired by Thor’s hammer Mjolnir. An interesting fact about Ragnir is that it is a warhammer that transforms into a squirrel. Ragnir has an interesting connection with Elbaph’s legendary Devil Fruit because it was the guardian of that fruit for generations.

King Harald states why this legendary Devil Fruit was not eaten for generations. It was because of Ragnir, who protected it.

Ragnir has the power to transform itself into a warhammer as well as a squirrel, and it can control the hammer’s size as well as its weight, which caused lots of trouble for Loki when he was trying to fight Ragnir for the Devil Fruit.

Loki defeated Ragnir by giving it his all in one strike, which broke his own weapon and knocked out Ragnir into its original squirrel form. After that, Loki ate the elbaph legendary Devil Fruit, and Ragnir chose Loki as its wielder.

Combined with Loki’s giant strength, the hammer makes him one of the most destructive close-range fighters in the series, which can use devastating thunderous attacks as well as ice powers

It’s stated in a recent chapter that Ragnir Hammer has the spirit of the Messenger Squirrel of Yggdrasil, Ratatoskr, or Ragnir is a legendary hammer that ate a squirrel Devil Fruit, likely the Mythical Zoan Ratatoskr from Norse mythology, and is connected to the Void Century, as seen in a brief flashback.

Loki’s Devil Fruit and Dragon Transformation

One of the biggest reveals in the Elbaph arc comes in Chapter 1175, where Loki’s Devil Fruit—also known as the legendary Devil Fruit of Elbaph, passed down through generations—has its name finally revealed.

Loki possesses a Mythical Zoan-type Devil Fruit, the Hebi Hebi no Mi, Model: Níðhöggr (Snake-Snake Fruit, Model: Nidhogg). This form resembles a Norse-inspired world serpent or dragon, reinforcing elbaph’s mythological themes.

After that, Loki is shown transforming into an enormous black dragon that shakes the entire elbaph. In this dragon form, Loki’s scale and presence rival even top-tier characters. His transformation shocked everyone, and fans are confused by how massive he is and are unable to predict his power level. When he appears, we see snow and lightning, suggesting possible ice and lightning abilities.

However, it’s still unclear to me whether these elemental powers come from his Devil Fruit or from his Ragnir Hammer. That will likely become clear once we see him in full combat.

But as far as I can understand, Ragnir Hammer has ice powers and can also channel Loki’s lightning dragon powers as well. That aside for now,

To put Loki’s dragon form size into perspective, giants look like tiny humans on his back—his dragon form is essentially like a Zunesha for giants.

Loki’s Strength and Abilities

Loki is the strongest being in Elbaph, and it’s not just a Loki agenda because it’s stated that Loki is far stronger and bigger than the average giants because of his pure ancient blood. As seen, he survives a fall from the Sun World of Elbaph all the way to the Underground as a baby, and that’s how the first rumor of him being a monster started.

Now in his prime, Loki has tremendous abilities. Let’s dive into it. Once again, his ancient Devil Fruit allows him to transform into a massive lightning-type dragon. Second, a Devil Fruit giant warhammer, which can transform into the squirrel Ratatoskr or vice versa, which also possesses ice powers and can freeze targets as well as summon lightning using Loki’s powers.

On top of that, Loki possesses Conqueror’s Haki, which he infused while attacking, causing destructive damage, and he easily defeated an immortal Holy Knight in one destructive blow, and Imu got afraid of sending more Holy Knights as he fears they can also die.

We can say Loki becomes the second character who wields two Devil Fruits: first his ancient dragon fruit, and second his warhammer Ragnir.

Loki used two named attacks till now, and they both are powerful in their own ways. They are:

Niflheim literally means "Primordial World":

An attack Loki first used against a draugr monster in elbaph’s Underworld named Niflheim. Loki hits his warhammer Ragnir on the monster, and the hit damages and also instantly freezes the opponent in a thick layer of ice. Niflheim is the primordial realm of ice in Old Norse mythology. In the manga, this is called Nibelheim.
According to Loki, anyone frozen by Ragnir cannot escape from the ice until Ragnir wills it.

Ragna Izuchi, meaning "Iron Thunder One Hammer":

Loki summons lightning from the sky and channels the lightning within Ragnir, and on top of that coats Ragnir in Supreme King Haki, then strikes down at Nerona Imu, who managed to block it using Omen.

To conclude, in dragon form, Loki’s presence even rivals Gear 5 Luffy visually. He operates on Emperor-level power scaling and is treated as a very important character, as his Devil Fruit is related to the Void Century.

Loki’s Relationship with Big Mom Crew

Marriage Proposal to Charlotte Lola

The first debut of Loki as a silhouette is shown when Charlotte Lola, daughter of Big Mom, tells that she was once engaged to Loki. The marriage was meant to form an alliance between the Giants and Big Mom’s crew. However, Lola refused the political marriage and fled from Totto Land, and Big Mom’s alliance with elbaph collapsed. This incident permanently damaged relations between Big Mom and elbaph.

Loki’s Hatred for Shanks

In the manga, we have heard, though not shown, how Shanks achieved this feat. Loki harbors deep resentment toward Shanks. Six years prior, Shanks defeated and subdued Loki, leading to his imprisonment. When Loki mocks Shanks during his encounter with the Straw Hats, Luffy immediately attacks him in anger.

This moment shows Loki underestimating Luffy and Luffy getting serious when Shanks is disrespected.

But here’s the catch—there are mysteries, because we see Shanks and Loki fighting alongside each other to protect Elbaph from the possessed King Harald. So why does he hate Shanks? According to my speculation, Loki resents him because he thinks it was all Shanks’ fault for King Harald’s situation. If he had somehow arrived earlier or told Harald the truth about the Abyss Mark sooner, then Loki might have avoided his biggest loss—being forced to kill his own father to protect Elbaph.

Loki had a special bounty of 2.6 Billion Berries, and he was captured 6 years ago.

Loki’s bounty is revealed to be 2,600,000,000 Berries. This makes him the highest-bounty giant in history, surpassing legendary giants like Dorry and Brogy.

We were told by Robin in past chapters that due to inflation, the bounty of Dorry and Brogy didn't go up as we initially thought. Is it the same case with Loki? If it is, then what must be his current bounty? Or is the bounty already adjusted according to inflation, and if it is, does it fairly show Loki’s strength?

The World Government clearly views him as a catastrophic-level threat.

Will Loki Join Luffy and the Straw Hats?

As of the latest chapters, Loki has rejected Luffy’s offer, and he is not interested in becoming a subordinate or crew member. Instead, he walks his own path and pursues his own vision for the world and admires Rocks. So will he join the Blackbeard crew, as it’s revealed that Marshall D. Teach is Rocks’ son? We don’t know what Oda is cooking for Loki. We have to wait and watch as the story progresses.

For now, Loki remains a wildcard or a temporary ally at best for Luffy, and there is no confirmation that he will join the Straw Hat Pirates for now.

How Strong Is Loki Compared to Luffy?

In his dragon form, Loki visually rivals Monkey D. Luffy in Gear 5. While no full battle has occurred, Loki is portrayed as Emperor-tier and among the strongest mortals alive to rival Imu, and surely, he is not someone Luffy can defeat casually.

Loki’s Role in the elbaph Arc

Loki is positioned as a central figure in the elbaph arc. His importance includes being the defender of Elbaph against the Holy Knights and Imu himself, and he acts as a symbol of rebellion against the World Government. He also possesses Elbaph’s ancient god of war weapon, Ragnir, and the legendary Devil Fruit, whose potential can only be unlocked by Loki due to his ancient bloodline and overall size.

His dragon transformation signals that Elbaph will not fall easily and must have a past connected with the Void Century, as stated by Imu.

Senpai conclusion

Loki is one of the most complex characters introduced by Oda in the final saga of One Piece. He has a very tragic past: he lost both his mother and father, has a demonic-eyed appearance, was misunderstood since childhood, and is currently seen as a father killer by all of the Elbaph nation. Yet he cannot be forgotten because he is connected to the history of the Void Century, and in his dragon form, he shakes the entire giant nation. He is a wildcard and among the most broken characters in One Piece in terms of power scaling, and I am eager to see more and more of his appearance in the anime and also eager to learn what past the Nidhogg has with Nerona Imu.

I don’t know how Loki will defeat Imu, as right now things are at a stalemate, but in the future, who knows? One thing is certain: Loki will shape the future of elbaph—and possibly the world itself.
