Yuta Okkotsu Powers & Abilities Explained (Jujutsu Kaisen Manga Updated 2025)
(Big spoiler head (really, we are going till the end of the series))
Who is Yuta Okkotsu in Jujutsu Kaisen?
Yuta Okkotsu is not your average jujutsu sorcerer in Gege Akutami's Jujutsu Kaisen Verse. he is a Special Grade jujutsu sorcerer - It is a title reserved for sorcerers with such immense strength that their destructive potential is not measurable, making them very rare and unique cases, hence the title "special.” Only four individuals have achieved this rare designation officially by higher-ups, alongside Satoru Gojo, Suguru Geto, and Yuki Tsukumo. What makes Yuta particularly fascinating is not just his immense power, but about his backstory, his lineage connection and overall character development
Yuta was initially introduced as the protagonist of the prequel manga "Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical School" (later retitled "Jujutsu Kaisen 0"), Yuta's story mirrors main series protagonist, Yuji Itadori. Both characters are introduced into the world of jujutsu sorcery by a special curse attached to them, yet their paths are different in meaningful ways that highlight different aspects of love, loss, and power, and the writing of Gege Akutami
The Tragic Origins of Yuta Okkotsu: Love, Loss, and Cursed Origin
Childhood and the Promise Ring
Yuta's story begins with tragedy. At age eleven, he met Rika Orimoto in a hospital, and their friendship quickly blossomed into something deeper ( innocent love between two children). On Yuta's birthday, Rika gave him a promise ring she had stolen from her mother, and the two children vowed to marry each other when they grew up. This childhood promise was going to become a curse or a blessing for both Yuta's greatest power and his deepest trauma.
The Accident That Changed Everything
The tragedy happened when Rika was killed in a traffic accident, in front of Yuta. This overwhelming grief and inability to accept her death and their innocent love becomes the source of power for Yuta and a curse, which transformed Rika into a Special Grade Vengeful Cursed Spirit, earning her the terrifying title of "The Queen of Curses
The Truth About the Curse
How the story reveals about Yuta and rika and her ring (which act as a connection between them ) we thought rika had cursed him out of love but the real truth his it was yuta himself who had cursed rika not able to let go of his beloved friend, this was revveald during fight between suguru geto vs yuta the curse was born not from malice but from pure love between them.
Noble Lineage of Yuta Okkotsu: The Blood of Legends
Descendant of Michizane Sugawara
Yuta's immense power isn't only because of Queen of the Curses. He is revealed by Gojo that Yuta is the distant descendant of Michizane Sugawara, one of Japan's Three Great Vengeful Spirits and one of the most powerful sorcerers in history. This lineage explains Yuta’s and gojo massive cursed energy reserves (Gojo also has the same ancestor as Yuta)
The Fujiwara Heritage (might not be confirmed )
Adding another layer to his noble heritage, Yuta may also possesses Fujiwara clan blood, as revealed by Takako Uro during their battle but its not fully confirmed by author but many fans think yuta as a dual lineage from both the Sugawara and Fujiwara clans, The Fujiwara were one of the four great families during the Heian period, Takako Uro, a revived Heian sorcerer in the Culling Game arc, states that she was the captain of the “Sun, Moon, and Stars Squad,” which served the Fujiwara clan.
Yuta Okkotsu’s Power and Cursed Techniques Explained
Immense Cursed Energy Reserves
This helps Yuta to maintain constant cursed energy output during longer battles and can use multiple high-level techniques comparable to any other normal jujutsu sorcerer, enhancing his physical abilities to superhuman levels, consistently with the help of cursed energy
Okkotsu Yuta's Innate Cursed Technique
Yuta's innate cursed technique, Copy or mimicry, allows him to copy any cursed technique he faced during battles. This is my favourite curesed technique and lots of other jjk fans beacuse its a overpowered hax but with some limitaion and requriments which include rika must consume a part of original user and Stronger techniques require more substantial consumption If the consumed part is healed, the copied technique is lost and most important one The copy technique can be used for a maximum of five minutes per manifestation of rika
Notable Copied Techniques used by Yuta Okkotsu:
Cursed Speech from Inumaki Toge, Sky Manipulation from Takako Uro Technique Extinguishment, Jacob's Ladder, from Angel Cleave from Ryomen Sukuna, Clairvoyance from Charles
Domain Expansion of Yuta Okkotsu: Authentic Mutual Love
In his domain he can use all cursed tecnhique he has ever copied during his life and each katana contains one of the copied cursed techniques, and by holding the katana, he can activate the cursed technique, and land on the opponents with the sure hit effect of the domain which makes extremely versatile in battles and his domain shows some impressive feats against sukuna the king of curses
Yuta Okkotsu’s Combat Mastery and Swordsmanship
Can Yuta throw a hand? Yes, of course, he is trained by Maki Zenin in Hand-to-Hand Combat to excel in close-quarters fighting, and his preferred fighting style is wielding a katana enhanced with cursed energy, which shows Yuta's IQ to use his vast cursed energy in every possible way to exorcise the cursed, and he also demonstrates tactical brilliance in adapting to opponents and can Also Perform black flash
Reversed Cursed Technique
Iconic Fights of Yuta Okkotsu
Yuta Okkotsu vs Suguru Geto
The first major battle of Yuta takes place during the Night Parade of a Hundred Demons, when Suguru Geto attacks Jujutsu High to steal Rika. After seeing his friends injured, Yuta goes berserk and starts fighting Geto, showing exactly why he is a special grade sorcerer.
First, he uses Reverse Cursed Technique to heal the others, and then jumps into battle alongside Rika. Geto launches a massive wave of centipede shikigami toward him, but Yuta summons a cursed microphone bearing the Inumaki clan symbol. He then uses the Cursed Speech technique and commands, “Die!” — instantly vaporizing all the centipedes.
(Note: Cursed Speech consumes vast amounts of cursed energy and puts extreme strain on the user, especially depending on how devastating the command is and the victim. The “Die” command is one of the most dangerous.)
Yuta then imbues his sword with cursed energy, attacking together with Rika in perfect synchronization, displaying his incredible energy control, swordsmanship, and coordination with her.
In the final moments of the battle, Geto unleashes his ultimate technique, but Yuta counters and overpowers it by sacrificing himself to Rika. He kisses her, offering his life in exchange for her full power. Geto mocks Yuta, calling him a “womanizer,” to which Yuta boldly replies, “It’s pure love!”
Rika goes berserk, releasing all her power, and their combined attack completely obliterates Geto’s technique, leaving him mortally wounded and destroying his right side completely.
In the end, Yuta learns that Rika’s curse was actually his own doing — he had accidentally cursed her out of grief when she died. Eventually, he releases her spirit, saying goodbye. However, through the ring Rika gave him, Yuta is later able to manifest her for five minutes, powered purely by his immense cursed energy and love.
Yuta Okkotsu vs Yuji Itadori
After the Shibuya Incident caused by Sukuna and Kenjaku, the Jujutsu Kaisen higher-ups decide to lift the suspension on Yuji Itadori’s execution. To carry out this order, they assign none other than Yuta Okkotsu as Yuji’s executioner. Bound by a pact to obey the higher-ups, Yuta accepts the mission to kill Yuji. When Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 begins, we’ll finally witness the iconic clash between these two protagonists—Yuta vs. Yuji, the first protagonist versus the second. The difference in their strength is significant
Yuta, who now has a lot of experience due to his mission in Africa and has grown a lot stronger, with his improved battle iq, swordmanship he easily overpowers yuji and when he summons rika it was the final nail in the coffin, rika holds yuji restricting his movements and uta effortlessly defeats Yuji, seemingly killing him with ease by stabbing his chest but with a plot twist
He used his Reverse Cursed Technique to heal Yuji right after “killing” him, essentially faking his death to fool the higher-ups and buy Yuji some time. (That's what I expect from a Gojo student, hehe )
Yuta Okkotsu vs Kenjaku
Yuta vs Kenjaku happened right after Gojo was defeated by Sukuna, and in this battle, Takaba did the heavy lifting against Kenjaku — creating a surrounding that hid everyone’s presence. After that intense fight ( kind of intense and unique ), Yuta suddenly appeared behind Kenjaku and defeated him in one final fatal slash.
At first, readers were complaining about the outcome, calling Yuta a fraud because Takaba did most of the heavy lifting. Memes started spreading, saying Yuta should’ve directly fought Sukuna instead.
But later, it was revealed that after Kenjaku died, all the cursed spirits he had stored were released from his body, and Yuta eliminated them, with Rika eating them to completely destroy them.
This turned out to be a crucial moment for the story, because Yuta eats Kenjaku afterward — and that leads to the big question:
Can you guys guess what Kenjaku’s innate technique is?
(That aside the writing of Gege shines where Gojo and Suguru Geto died at the same time, and another parallel was the main overpower hero (Gojo) and the overpower villain, who is alive from the Heian era till date ( kenjaku ), die simultaneously, which I liked great loss with great win )
Yuta Okkotsu vs Sukuna
This happened in the Shinjuku Showdown final arc, where Sukuna gets karma and has to face a 1 vs 3 with Yuta, Yuji, and Rika. In this fight, Yuta shows immense feats — including using Sukuna’s innate cursed technique, Cleave and Dismantle, which completely shocked Sukuna.
Many thought Yuta or Rika ate Sukuna’s last finger, but the answer is no — the correct answer is a big spoiler: Rika eats Yuji’s finger to obtain his technique.
Another insane moment is when Yuta finally uses his Domain Expansion, and we witness its full power for the first time. But Sukuna, being the King of Curses, knows a Heian era secret — the Hollow Wicker Basket, which he uses to nullify the Domain’s sure-hit effect. The battle between them is absolutely epic — Yuta unleashes his copy techniques one by one against Sukuna, pushing him to the limit.
In the end, after an unbelievably tough battle, Sukuna lands his most devastating attack, the World Cutting Slash, slicing Yuta apart — just like he once bisected The Honored One
Just after that, Yuta's domains broke, and everyone outside saw the body of Yuta in the hands of Rika, crying
The Return of the Honored One – Yuta Okkotsu’s Final Copy Technique
The final copy technique released from Yuta’s arsenal was morally not good — it was using Kenjaku’s body-hopping innate cursed technique to hop into the body of his sensei, Gojo, and resurrect him once again to fight against Sukuna.
Yuta then showcased Gojo’s techniques, but he couldn’t master them completely and eventually dropped down from exhaustion, as Kenjaku’s technique burnt out. As we know, a copied CT could only be used for 5 minutes
This moment finally answered Geto’s famous question:
“Are you the strongest because you're Satoru Gojo, or are you Satoru Gojo because you're the strongest?”
And the answer was absolutely clear — It’s because He is Gojo Satoru.
Yuta Okkotsu Revival After Sukuna Battle
After the aftermath of Yuta’s fight against Sukuna, Yuta was directly shown in the last chapter of the manga, and as readers, we finally got told what really happened — Yuta was revived again by Shoko, and with the help of Rika continuously healing him, he was brought back even after he had hopped into Gojo’s body.
That’s why during the Gojo/Yuji fight, we don’t see Rika — because she and Shoko were patching Yuta’s body continuously with RCT.
Yuta Okkotsu and Maki Zenin Relationship
After the end of the manga, we see the prologue, where it’s revealed that Yuta got married to Maki, and together they have kids — and even grandkids — who will become the next generation of Jujutsu Kaisen.
JJK Modulo: The Legacy of Yuta Okkotsu
Conclusion By Senpai
Fans were losing it — like, who would’ve thought the quiet, cursed boy Yuta would turn into a literal family man? Even Geto somewhere up there must be laughing, saying, “Told you he was a womanizer in denial.”
Rika’s probably still haunting him like, “So, you really married Maki, huh?”
JJK: Modulo already sounds wild — Forget Naruto and Boruto — this is straight-up Yuta-shippuden
As we said from the very start, calling Yuta the first protagonist was never wrong — his character development, unique power, and tragic story made him one of the most loved characters in the entire Jujutsu Kaisen series.
From a lonely, cursed boy bound to Rika’s spirit to a confident sorcerer who stood toe-to-toe with Sukuna himself, He carried pain, love, and responsibility in equal measure — and somehow made us all root for him through it all.
And this isn’t the end — because we’ll be covering JJK: Modulo in the future. So stay tuned, because the story of Yuta’s legacy — through his grandkids — is just getting started!
